The time has come to schedule your fishing vacation with the Fly Shop of the Bighorns. For some of you it has been a couple of years since you last took a vacation. Others took small vacations but you did not get everything you wanted from your vacation. This year you need to treat yourself to a great fly fishing experience. We have great fishing and even better guided fly fishing packages for every level of fly fisherman.
This season is poised to have one of the best grass hopper seasons of the decade. For those of you that missed 2009, WOW did you miss out. The Hopper season last year was fantastic! However don‘t worry just yet; the Pest Control Board for the Sheridan Wyoming area is gearing up for this year’s grass hopper season to be the most prolific hatch in the past 50 years. That is really bad for our ranchers and farmers, but it is a rare fantastic treat for us fly fisherman. So don’t miss out.
All I can say is get yourself ready for big hopper patterns and 0X leaders in July, August and September. Big dry flies and heavy leaders are a luxury most of us don’t get to enjoy very often and I can’s say this enough. DON’T MISS OUT! Call and schedule you trip right away. Our private waters are already filling dates and guides are almost impossible to get booked even two months in advance. Trying to book a guide in July, August or September will be almost impossible if you book after April. Groups of 4 or more are even harder to get booked so call as soon as possible.
The pre-runoff season is also gearing up for some fun technical cold water fishing. There is a lot to learn about fishing in cold spring and fall fishing. For instance our private guided reservoirs are brimming with 4 to 8 pound lunkers. That fish best in spring and fall. If you have never caught a large trout it is worth doing several times in your life. I find most people that say they don’t like to fish lakes or reservoirs usually don’t know how to do it or have not done it enough to really know whether they like it or not. I challenge you to try a few days this summer on a pond, lake or reservoir and learn how to catch these great still fish on a fly. When you learn what to expect from still water fishing, You may be surprised how easy it can be some days and how difficult it can be on other days. Fish with us and we can help you learn how to succeed on still waters by adding techniques and skills to your arsenal.
Piney Creek and The North Fork of the Powder should fish exceptionally well this summer. For those who have not treated yourselves to a creek with the total package book now and experience private water fishing that is as good as any exclusive water in the world. When you break down these two creeks to the defining factors of great waters, Piney and North Powder will compete at every level. Add to that our limited access and affordable rates it is a life time memory that will be hard to beat for the rest of your fishing career. Make sure you bring you’re A game or these big fish just might school you. If you are up to the challenge of a 20 inch creek raised brown, you will have a great time. There are a few 2 foot browns that are amazing.
As the summer rolls in, you can get the full package treatment. Private water trophy fish, private water- none pressured flawless fish and to wrap up the tri-fecta fun public mountain serenity with clean veracious typical mountain trout. 14 different fish to choose from including Yellowstone Cutthroat, Greyling, Golden, Mackinaw, Splake, Brookinaw and Mountain Whitefish.
If you want a legendary fly fishing adventure at one of the most exceptionally diverse fly fishing locations with extreme and complex options available by any one stop fly shops your money can provide, call Roger at the Fly Shop of the Bighorns at 307-672-5866 to discuss your dream trip.
I recommend 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or even 9 day trips to get a full scope of what fly fishing is to the guides at The Fly Shop of the Bighorns. If you book 5 days at 5 different waters we have access to, you can’t help but get a true sense of what it means to be a Fly Fisherman.
We have already booked 4 five day trips and one 22 day extreme trip of a life time.
Thanks for your time and support of our local fly shop.
